Nazca

As the trip to Arequipa was so long we decided to have a stopover at the famous Nazca lines. Ancient drawings, geometrical figures and lines in the dessert which are considered to be a astronomical calendar or leading to water or offerings to the pre-Incan gods. Even if we didnt take the flight over the lines (expensive as some weeks before one of the planes crashed) we booked our first real tour ;) and funnily met some other German-Austrians. From a little tower we could see some of the drawings (hand and tree) which seemed like ancient comic strips (Bernd) and were forme by removing the dark stones from above to reveal the light ground. As there is almost no rain in the region they stayed for two thousand years but were only discovered at the beginning of the 20th century. The German mathematician Maria Reiche cartographed and cleand them and tried to explain the geometry behind it.

In the evening we went to the Planetarium in Nazca with the German-Austrian couple. The Planetarium had a projector for the stars and for the lines - very unique, cute and handmade cylinders with holes and light inside :) After this second presentation about the myths and explanations around Nazca (with aliens being the less likeliest and different usage of different, succeeding generations) we were almost experts :P
While having dinner we exchanged tips for our trips, as we were heading south and the others were heading north.
